Application of Superalloy Casting

3

Power Generation
Power plants use superalloy castings in heat exchangers, steam and gas turbines and boiler components.

Aerospace
The use of superalloy castings is very important in aerospace industry. These materials are used to make important components such as combustors, exhaust & turbine blades.

Marine Applications
Superalloy castings are well suited for marine applications because they resist seawater fouling and corrosion.

Chemical Processing
Chemical factories need superalloy castings for pipelines, reactors as well as heat exchangers because these components are exposed to high pressures and corrosive chemicals.

Automotive Industry
In automotive industry superalloy castings are used in exhaust systems, turbocharger wheels & high performance engine parts.

Hardness Test
Hardness is an essential characteristic of investment casting materials that determines their resistance to indentation. This physical property can be improved by heat treatment to enhance wear resistance according to the specifications of our customers.

Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and subsurface defects, including cracks, seams, inclusions, and porosity in investment castings. This method applies magnetic particles to the surface of the part, without damaging it in any way, to identify any invisible defects.

Material Test
During the investment casting process, material testing is crucial in ensuring that the finished product meets the required specifications. At KEMING MACHINERY, we use a spectrometer to precisely test the chemical composition of the investment casting materials. This technology accurately tests each element of the metal, and we compare the results with the material standards. If the values are within the acceptable range, we consider the material qualified. This process is called chemical analysis.

X-RAY TEST
X-Ray testing is a highly effective non-destructive inspection method that enables us to detect internal defects in investment castings. This technique exposes the casting to radiation from an x-ray tube, and the part absorbs part of the radiation. The remaining radiation exposes the radiographic film, and any inclusion or defect will appear as a dark area on the film.

FAQ

Q: How to ensure quality?

A: We have a professional quality inspection department, before production, the raw materials through quality testing, in production, each stage of production tracking and quality control, before delivery, according to customer requirements for 100% testing of products.

Q: Do you provide OEM and ODM services?

A: We provide OEM & ODM services, exporting globally and ensuring tailored solutions to meet specific needs.

Q: What elements are commonly used in superalloy castings?

A: Superalloys have nickel, cobalt, or iron as the base metal. They further consist of alloying elements that include chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, and titanium. These elements cause superalloys to have excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. These features make superalloys ideal for extreme environments.

Q: How are superalloy casting different from stainless steel casting?

A: Although stainless steel is corrosion and strength resistant, superalloys excel them under high-temperature conditions. Superalloys remain structurally strong even at the highest temperatures and are thus perfect for aerospace, gas turbines, and power generation industries where stainless steel loses strength over time.

Q: Are superalloy castings recyclable?

A: Yes, it is indeed recyclable, but the process is challenging due to their intricate composition. Value metals are reclaimed using specialized recycling processes such as vacuum re-melting and refining. Recycling processes are being streamlined by enhancement, thus enabling improved sustainability and lower reliance on newly mined raw material.

Q: What is the role of nickel in Superalloy?

A: To talk about nickel-based superalloys themselves, it is significant to note the importance of nickel in superalloys. Therein lies the superior strength, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance imparted by nickel. Nickel-based superalloys find wide applications mainly in jet engines, gas turbines, and other high-temperature applications since they maintain their performance under conditions of harsh heat and stress.

Q: What casting methods are used for superalloys?

A: We employ advanced casting techniques such as investment casting, sand casting, and precision casting to produce high-quality superalloy components. Our state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with the latest technology to handle complex geometries and tight tolerances.

Q: What is directional solidification in superalloy casting?

A: Directional solidification is solidification that occurs from farthest end of the casting and works its way towards the sprue. Progressive solidification, also known as parallel solidification, is solidification that starts at the walls of the casting and progresses perpendicularly from that surface.
