On April 17, the British Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Company issued a titanium-aluminum turbine blade precision casting technology quality certification to the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenyang, marking that the advanced technology developed by the Institute of Metals has entered the application stage.
From April 15th to 17th, David Smith, titanium alloy quality director of Rolls-Royce Company, and Peter Dixon, a casting technology review expert, visited the Institute of Metals and conducted an on-site review of the titanium-aluminum master alloy preparation technology and titanium-aluminum blade precision casting technology. In a brief ceremony held after the final meeting of the quality audit, Director Yang Rui received the quality certificate of titanium aluminum turbine blade precision casting technology from David Smith on behalf of the Institute of Metals.
In his speech, David Smith thanked the R&D team of the Institute of Metals for their work. He said that the titanium-aluminum master alloy preparation technology developed by the Metal Research Institute passed the quality audit of Rolls-Royce in May 2011. Now the titanium-aluminum turbine blade precision casting technology has also passed the audit, marking this advanced technology entering the application stage. Hope that Metals will uphold the concept of continuous improvement, maintain high quality and strive for perfection.
Yang Rui said that the aero engine turbine blades are high-temperature rotating parts, which require strict material quality and manufacturing processes. As a new material, titanium and aluminum have room for improvement no matter the preparation of master alloy or precision casting of blades. The Institute of Metals will continue to work hard to develop green, low-cost manufacturing technology and promote the key application of high-tech materials.
